Printed Circuit Board Identification Using 1-Wire Products

Abstract: There are two ways to identify a printed circuit board (PCB). The 'minimalist' approach is based on devices using ROM technology. The 'nameplate' approach requires user-programmable NV memory to store the PnP-related information. The most obvious way to implement Plug-and-Play capabilities is by means of a memory chip that holds the required information and does not lose it if power is switched off. 1-Wire® chips for PCB identification need to maintain stored data independent of any power supply such as ROM, EEPROM and EPROM (One-Time-Programmable).
