The DS32KHZS provides superior accuracy for real-time clock (RTC) applications that require less than ±2min/yr (±4ppm) accuracy over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C . The DS32KHZS is packaged in a cost-effective, standard 16-pin 300 mil SO. Package dynamics allow this version of the DS32KHZS to be calibrated to ±1.75min/yr (±3.5ppm) over the entire -40°C to +85°C range.
When combined with the DS1375 RTC, the industry's most accurate, simple, and cost- effective RTC solution can be realized. However, the DS32KHZS is not limited to use with just the DS1375. A host of Dallas Semiconductor RTCs can be used in any application desired by the user. A list of available clocks are shown in the table below. Additionally, the DS32KHZS can be used to drive microprocessor clocks.
The DS32KHZS provides more than just accuracy. In addition, the device is able to provide power switching between the main power source and a backup battery source. When in a battery-backed state, the accuracy of the clock does not diminish. For batterybacked applications, the user only needs to supply a 3V backup energy source to maintain time in the absence of system power and a host processor to access time through the RTC control interface. Typical applications for the DS32KHZS include telematics, electricity meters, security-/access-control systems, servers, GPS, and time-based billing systems.
