MAXIM INTRODUCES THE SMALLEST DUAL USB SWITCHES WITH UP TO 1.2A CURRENT PER CHANNEL IN A 3mm x 3mm TDFN PACKAGE

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 1, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1558/MAX1558H dual current-limited switches featuring autoreset, fault blanking, and reverse current blocking for USB applications in notebook and desktop computers, USB hubs, and PDAs. The newly added reverse-current protection circuitry blocks current flow from the output to the input when the switches are off. The devices deliver up to 1.2A output current per channel. The MAX1558/MAX1558H have a very low switch resistance of 55 milliohms, quiescent supply current of 45µA, a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range, and standby current of 3µA conserve battery power in portable applications.

The MAX1558/MAX1558H provide several safety features to protect the USB ports. Built-in thermal-overload protection limits power dissipation and junction temperature. An accurate, programmable, internal current-limiting circuit protects the input supply against both overload and short-circuit conditions. Independent fault signals notify the microprocessor when thermal- overload, current-limit, undervoltage-lockout (UVLO), or short-circuit faults occur.

A 20ms fault-blanking feature enables the circuit to ignore momentary faults, such as those caused when hot-swapping a capacitive load, preventing false alarms to the host system. The autoreset feature automatically restarts the output after a short-circuit or overload condition is removed. The MAX1558H has active-high ENABLE pins.

These devices come in tiny, 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin TDFN packages, making the MAX1558/MAX1558H ideal for portable applications. The MAX1558/MAX1558H operate over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $1.10 (1000-up, FOB USA).
